I love living in Modbury. It has to be one of the best places to live in Britain and the main reason why we moved here from Surrey after many holidays over the years in and around the area. Bigbury is my favourite beach and I love walking and swimming there with our dog Alfie, who certainly has his own fan club around the area and knows where and who is good for a treat on local walks.
After what seems to have been a lifetime in the National Health Service and the Charity Sector I looked forward to a lazy retirement in a peaceful and pleasant place. However I am passionate about the community particularly about social care, social housing, supporting a fair deal for all, accessibility, carers’ support, and environmental issues and like to get involved to make things happen. I currently chair the Parish Council and I am on a number of the Council’s committees and Working Groups. I also represent the Council as a Trustee on the Modbury Sick Poor Fund.
Alongside the volunteering I do for the Council I have also been involved with the May Fair, having organised the Modbury Mile Run for the past three years with my husband and as a member of the Modbury Twinning Society hosting our French guests. Outside of Modbury I am a Trustee of South Hams Community Action which supports a range of Charitable organisations as well as providing Social Prescribing Services in partnership with Health Centres and GP practices.
My hobbies include swimming both in the pool and the sea, reading (I am a member of one of the many book clubs in Modbury), wine appreciation, cooking/baking, very amateur gardening and walking the dog. What’s left of my time is taken up with frequent trips to London to see both of our boys who still live there and to catch up with our growing grandson.
