Councillor

Cllr Tony Price

Barbara and I moved to Modbury in 2020, but I have been coming to the area all my life on holiday and to visit my relatives who lived in Torquay. Coming to live in the best town in the South Hams has been like coming home; a community big enough to sustain a decent level of services, yet small enough to really feel like a community, and with a fascinating and long history. I joined the Parish Council in 2023, but before then helped to start the touch rugby club, organize the Modbury Mile, play for the cricket club, put up the Christmas lights, joined the town emergency committee and also Bigbury Golf Club. Since joining the council I am even more involved!

I absolutely believe in volunteering to help the community where I live, and before moving to Modbury my main non-work interests were in sport and history. I played rugby for over 50 years, did everything at my local rugby club from captaining all 6 sides to chairman, was on the board of Surrey Rugby, then on the national governing body, the RFU Council – I had to move to Devon to escape rugby admin, so now I just referee in the county. I have been on the board of the World Rugby Museum since 2017.

My work life has been varied: in the City of London for a few years; ran a picture library and framing business; started my own historic picture library; developed an ecommerce business; developed and managed websites for others; and started an historic London walking tours company. I now sing in the gospel choir, study local history, and ramble a lot around the South Hams countryside.
